First time I felt the power of a Gong

The First Time I Felt the Power of a Gong

Back in 2017, I was in a new life in Hong Kong. My neighbor, an artist named Cristina, quickly became a good friend. She invited me to something called a "Gong Bath."

Gong what?! What is that?!

It sounded mysterious, unconventional, and fascinating. My answer was an instant, "YES!" We went to Wong Chuk Hang, to a massive industrial building. We took a huge lift up to the 21st floor. It felt ominous, like we were getting lost in a maze. But then we found it: Red Doors Studio. From the moment you walk in, the place feels like a peaceful, Asian oasis.

We all laid down on yoga mats. Martha, the founder, led us through a kundalini exercise, explained the process, and then began to play the many gongs.

Unlike traditional music, the sound of the gongs is unpredictable. Your mind can’t follow it, so it’s forced to disconnect. My mind tried to make sense of the sounds and failed. Then… nothing. I completely switched off. I actually don’t remember much of the session, hahaha.

I do recall a moment when the sound became a powerful tsunami of vibration. It was intense and all-encompassing. My mind was a little scared, but the feeling passed quickly.

When the gong bath ended, I stood up feeling completely different. Floating in space. Walking on clouds. All my thoughts and worries were temporarily gone. I loved it. I loved the transformation.

I kept going back to Red Doors, and one day, I saw that Martha was offering a course to teach others how to play the gong. And that's how my journey began.
