The Meaning of W4-Tidal - Gong Baths, in West London
When looking at a name for my Gong Bath work, I went back and forth between Tidal Gong Bath and W4 Gong Bath, I couldn’t choose so in the end, I chose both. When I dug into the names, the meaning, in a magic way, it all made sense! and here is why;
🌿 W4 Gong Bath – Rooted in West London
I love the simplicity of this name — it speaks to the where and the what.
W4 marks my local map, West London — Chiswick, Kew, Richmond, Hammersmith, and Barnes — where I try to share and expand the gong and sound healing vibes.
But there’s more to it than geography… if you keep peeling back the layers of the onion…
The West is linked to the metal element. In Taoism, metal brings clarity and represents gathering essence back into the source — an act of centering. Most of us notice that our attention is scattered around, thus, clarity and centring of the mind becomes key to having a rewarding day, time, way of life.
The number 4 in numerology represents stability, structure, and grounding — like the four legs of a table, sturdy and balanced. Gong baths tend to lift us into higher states of awareness, but they also remind us to stay grounded, to maintain balance between energy and stillness.
🌊 W4-Tidal – The Flow of Energy and Sound
Tidal captures the essence of my gong bath sessions. I am a rower and cherish my time on the water, water and rivers inspire me. Tidal means change, but there is more, if you keep peeling back the layers of the onion…
Tides move in a constant rhythm — ebb and flow — reflecting the cycles of life itself; the balance between giving and receiving / the rise and fall of emotions, energy, and experiences / the reminder to surrender to natural rhythms rather than resist them.
“As the tide flows, so flows life — constantly moving between fullness and emptiness.”
We all move through emotional, physical, and spiritual tides. The gong vibrations tend to meet you exactly where you are.
If you need energy, they will uplift and invigorate you; if you need calm and space, that’s what you’ll receive.
Tides are guided by the moon’s gravitational pull, connecting them to feminine energy — nurturing, intuitive, cyclical. They remind us to align with nature’s rhythms, our intuition, and the phases of the moon — just as sound healing aligns body, mind, and spirit.
🌕 In Gratitude
The name W4-Tidal holds everything I love — flow, rhythm, grounding, and connection. It reflects how sound, like the tide, moves through and transforms us.
Thanks to my friend Rowena, for encouraging me to explore the deeper meaning behind the name. And thanks to Sari for a beautiful, mysterious and alluring picture!
